From Jackass to Crackerass...The Jackass genre, which involves ordinary folk performing stunts on camera, hit it's peak a few years back with the release of the Jackass TV show on MTV.
This inevitably led to copycat recordings when young men across the world decided to emulate their onscreen heroes without the benefit of stunt professionals or medical staff.
Meanwhile, Jackass the Movie was hitting the number one spot on it's debut weekend worldwide, grossing $60 million after an inital budget of $5 million. Some took to mixing up Jackass style stunts with their other favourite medium of the time, wrestling.
Spin off TV shows such as Wildboyz and Viva la Bam gave the Jackass stars another outlet for their talents but were not as successful as the original. Many parodies of Jackass started appearing on network television such as this one from the FOX network.
After it's 3rd season, Jackass came to a close but the torch was picked up by many, most notably the Dirty Sanchez team from right here in South Wales.
Fans of the original Jackass movie will be delighted to hear that the guys are coming back this Autumn with Jackass: Number Two. So in conclusion, it's pointless putting a 'dont try this at home' warning on your show when there are people out there who are quite prepared to staple appendages to a mantlepiece in the name of fun, as in this clip from the Dirty Sanchez boys.
