The Curse of Geoff Barker...I can't speak for everyone who has helped organise the Welsh Comedy Festival, (thanks to all of you, you know who you are) but one of the things I looked forward to was seeing my name in the local press. Just a little something for my family and friends to see, to show them I had actually spent the last 8 months doing something rather than just getting stoned in my office.
Little did I know at the time, but it was to be my life-long arch nemesis, Geoff Barker that was to receive the plaudits. For the first 16 or so years of my life I was blissfully unaware of Geoff's existence until I received my first ever piece of junk mail in the post from a magazine subscription service. 'Dear Mr. Barker,' it began. Now I get dozens of them a week and plenty more in the email. Even my driving licence refers to me as 'Barker'. The Echo this week managed to call me Geoff Baker in one article and Jeff Barker in another.
But joking aside, I'd like to say a big thanks to the Echo, The Western Mail, The Wales on Sunday and all the other publications who printed excellent articles that have helped the festival attract enough attention to hopefully make it a success. Thanks to these articles, the crackerass office has received hundreds of reservation emails for all the festivals events and Rhod Gilbert's Edinburgh preview tomorrow night at The Social, Cathays is nearly all booked! Check out the festival schedule and if you fancy any of the nights drop me a line to reserve your seat in advance. Seats are going fast, particularly for the Howard Marks gig at The Point, Cardiff Bay which is the only festival event you can book tickets for. Finally, I'd like to say a big thanks to Rhod Gilbert for plugging the festival shamelessly on his Radio Wales show and for paying for posters and flyers when our sponsor pulled out at the last minute. Just remember, Rhod's gig tomorrow starts at 7, on 07/07/07. Spooky. Howard Marks is on Friday 13th. Ooohhh... Jeff Baker - 07/07/07

The Welsh Comedy Festival kicks off Saturday 7th July ticket details are available here! Kevin Coleman has written his third blog. It's all about his adventures as a stand up comic after gaining his first contract after winning the 'Funny Business' final. NSFW. When the Chinese translate, they do it with style...

I have an idea for a TV show. Not sure of a name yet. Something like: “Here’s A Load Of Freaks with Talent. Who Do You Feel Sorry For The Most?” Not very catchy but I’m working on that. The contestants will compete for the opportunity of obscurity after a brief appearance on the Royal Variety Performance. We’ll throw them into the public spotlight, expose their private lives in the papers, patronise them by reporting on their rags-to-riches success story, then demonise them when we’re bored of them and our attentions have switched to the latest Big Brother racist evictee. The contestants? There’s a ninety-three year old man that can juggle his own eyes. A four year old girl who can recite the complete works of Shakespeare whilst simultaneously milking a squirrel. A troupe of midgets, who, using a series of distorting mirrors, actually appear normal human size. Wow! That’s my favourite so far. Think I’ll vote for them. Hang on, the ex-driving instructor’s on next. The one that can jump up and down better than anyone else in the world. It’s such a difficult decision. This is really going to capture the public’s imagination. And what a welcome relief from all that global warming bollocks.
